Florida Fish and Wildlife officers tell FOX 13 they are investigating a video that shows a group of men harassing a manatee in Florida.
The video was posted online and obtained by FOX 13 on Monday. After seeing the video, officials are now looking for the men involved.
It was posted onto Facebook about a year ago. It shows one man trying to jump right on top of two manatees. He lands on one of the manatees, but there is no indication it was seriously hurt.
The two men are from Brevard County. They are on a dock where two manatees are swimming nearby. It may possibly be a mother and her calf.
One man is heard laughing in the background just before he cannonballs into the water – right on top of the manatee.
The other man is never seen, but he videotapes the entire thing, urging the man to jump.
It's not the first time we've seen people harass a manatee. Last September, a woman went viral after pictures surfaced of her trying to ride manatees at Fort De Soto Park.
Several people on shore took the photos and contacted authorities. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said she told them she was new to the area and didn't know it was illegal.
The woman in those pictures was later charged with violating the Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act, which is a second degree misdemeanor.
The men could face a fine of up to $25,000.
Florida Fish and Wildlife is looking for any tips that will lead them to the men. Contact them if you have any information.
